Patients are admitted to the Appalachian Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program (ACRP) after being referred by a physician and the patient's medical records have been reviewed by the ACRP team. A patient who has, or has had one or more of the following conditions may be an appropriate candidate for the program:

  • Diagnosed heart disease
  • Myocardial infarction (heart attack)
  • Angina Pectoris (chest pain)
  • Post-operative cardiovascular surgery (angioplasty, bypass, atherectomy)
  • Pace makers and dysrhythmias
  • Diagnosed pulmonary disease

This involves a comprehensive evaluation by the ACRP team and/or patient's physicians and may include:

  • Monitored graded exercise test
  • Coronary risk factor profile
  • Nutritional evaluation
  • Lipid profile
  • Coping skills evaluation
  • Pulmonary function studies
  • Medical history review

Cardiopulmonary Services for patients include:

  • Respiratory Therapy - Our dedicated staff of licensed respiratory care practitioners provide breathing therapies and emergency care with the most up-to-date technologies available.
  • EKG and Stress Testing - non-invasive cardiology services are coordinated with qualified physicians providing accurate and safe diagnostic procedures.
  • Pulmonary Laboratory - Pulmonary Function studies and Blood Gas Laboratory testing combine for complete diagnostic respiratory services. These tests assist physicians in critical patient management decisions.

Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Therapy Sessions Include:

A group with which to share success and encouragement, and in turn, be encouraged.

Activity to improve heart and lung function, as well as increase muscular strength. Heart rate, oxygen saturation, and EKG are monitored during the exercise sessions.

Informative sessions to educate patients about how to better cope with their disease, how to modify their lifestyle, and reduce risk factors for their disease.
